THE LANGUAGE GAP NO ONE LIKES TO MENTION

AI is surprisingly multilingual – but it definitely plays favorites. English, German, French, Spanish, sure. Serbian? Bosnian? Latvian? Not so much.

The fewer native-language data sources available online, the shakier your translation gets. Cue the “that’s not quite what we meant” moments ranging from awkward slogans to legally terrifying clauses.

We’ve seen it all:

  • Fluent sentences that sound lovely… and are totally wrong.
  • Great grammar hiding sloppy terminology.
  • Impressive tone that’s wildly off-brand.

    AI can write. But can it flirt with your audience? Not really. It tends to flatten emotional nuance – jokes go missing, cultural cues go sideways, and wordplay becomes wordpain. Suddenly your edgy brand sounds like a tax brochure.
  4. Legal content
    Lawyers dream of consistency. AI dreams of synonyms. Unfortunately, “may” and “shall” are not the same thing. And no, a contract that’s “creative” is not a good thing.
  5. Medical and pharma texts
    There’s no room for “close enough.” Wrong units, off terminology, or translated idioms in patient materials? That’s how public health nightmares start. We’d rather not test the lawsuit potential of “mostly accurate.”
  6. HR and internal communication
    Even innocent content can go wrong. A mistranslated policy update here, a gendered phrase there – suddenly your global workforce is running two different codes of conduct. Not great for morale (or compliance).
